HALFORDS EXPANDS TWO-WHEEL PRODUCT RANGE

July 23 2014.

News that may be better for suppliers than for dealers is that Halfords has expanded its range of products catering to motorcycle and scooter riders, introducing, according to a press release - a suite of new products for these economical and inexpensive modes of transport - including helmets, batteries, storage boxes, wet weather riding gear, protective covers and security locks.

The release continues - Halfords category manager Paul Tomlinson said: “Our latest range comprises more than 250 core products specifically for this market and we believe that Halfords’ combination of accessibility - there’s a Halfords store within 20 minutes for 90% of the UK population - value and a welcoming store environment will appeal to this new generation of riders.”

Improvements in comfort, styling and power have attracted more men to scootering in recent years, where in the past it had been more popular among women, and with pass rates of between 70-75% a year the number of riders is growing at around 30,000 per annum.

Paul Tomlinson added: “The market for motorcycle and scooter products has fragmented, many independents have shut down and manufacturer-specific dealers have failed to adapt – creating an environment that can be intimidating for new scooter riders.”
