INTERMOT COLOGNE - AMD WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP CUSTOM BIKE BUILD FEATURE

July 21 2014.

The AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building 2014 will take place during this year’s INTERMOT show in Cologne, and the number of entries with three months to go indicate that it will be a hugely successful event.

On expiry of the early-bird registration period at the end of June, the organizers had received entries from 34 custom bike builders from 17 countries with over 50 different bikes. The list of entries received so far already includes many big names and new stars of the custom bike world, headed up by the return to competition of 2010 World Champion Freddie ‘Krugger’ Bertrand from Belgium. Other returning winners include 2013 Retro Modified Class World Champions Inglorious Basterds of Italy; internationally acclaimed 2013 Modified Harley-Davidson Class World Champion Winston Yeh of Rough Crafts in Taiwan; 2013 Modified Harley World Championship class runner-up One Way Machine of Stauffenburg, Germany; 2013 World Championship third-place winner Rocket Bobs from the UK; and 2010 Production Manufacturer Class World Champions SBAY Motor Co. from Spain.

The AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building has been the mega-event of the customizing scene for over ten years, and took place outside the USA for the first time in 2013.The AMD World Champion is traditionally chosen from the Freestyle Class – a showcase for all bike platforms, engines, design and engineering ideas.

The World Championship also recognizes specialist custom design and engineering in a series of additional classes: Retro/Modified for bikes based on a pre-1984 engine; Modified Harley-Davidson for customizers using an original Harley-Davidson frame and engine; Street Performance, where the design and engineering focus is on improvement to street-use performance and handling.

New for this first ever AMD World Championship to be staged during INTERMOT in Cologne will be a Cafe Racer Class, for road racing machines inspired by the famous 1950s/60s style that revolutionized motorcycling and laid the foundations for the industry that we know today.

The AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building is open to amateurs / privateers as well as professional customizers, and registrations will be accepted on a ‘first-come-first-served’ basis. The title of World Champion will be decided by a ‘peer review’ among all competitors. Each competitor must submit a list ranking their choice of the top twelve bikes. Competitors may not vote for their own bike(s). The deadline for submitting ranking lists is 5.00 pm on 4th October. The World Championship winners will be announced at 4.00 pm on 5th October.
