MORTONS MEDIA MOVES THROUGH THE GEARS AS BRISTOL CLASSIC CAR SHOW GETS NEW OWNER

September 2 2014.

The organiser of some of the UK’s biggest motorcycle weekends is making its first foray into the classic car market with the news that Mortons Media Group has completed the acquisition of the Footman James Bristol Classic Car Show.

The event, first held in 1980, welcomes thousands of visitors every year to the Bath and West Showground in Shepton Mallet and will join the growing Mortons range from its next running in the summer of 2015.

The deal also includes The Footman James Great Western Autojumble and The Footman James Vehicle Restoration Show, both held at the same venue.

Mortons’ managing director of events, Brian Hill, said: “It’s an exciting time for the company as we expand and move in to a new market with three fantastic new shows.

“Mortons has more than 20 years’ experience in the classic motorcycle domain as the publisher of Old Bike Mart, Classic Bike Guide and The Classic MotorCycle among others, as well as being the driving force behind Classic Bike Shows, organiser of our market-leading Stafford and Bristol events.

“Our Bristol event also gives us a sound working knowledge of the Bath and West Showground having been held there for a number of years.

“We’re looking forward to bringing our automotive experience and expertise to an already successful set of shows as we take them forward over the coming years.”

Nigel Stevens, the man behind the trio of annual exhibitions, will remain on board as a consultant and was keen to emphasise that preparations for the November weekend will continue as planned during the transition: “With only two months to go until The Footman James Vehicle Restoration Show the current team will be taking on a lead role in the organisation and will work closely with Mortons throughout the next year ensuring a smooth takeover period.

“I’m excited about the future of the shows and with the plans in place I expect the South West’s premier classic car events to thrive as part of the Mortons stable.”

The development comes just a week after the announcement that Mortons had taken stewardship of the newly-named Classic Dirt Bike Show at Telford’s International Centre.

The company’s pedigree in motoring-related activities stretches beyond two-wheels also, with publications such as Classic American, Heritage Commercials and Old Glory under its banner.

Mr Hill added: “We know that events and publishing form a great partnership and we will be looking at ways in which we can showcase all manner of engineering excellence; especially motorcycling, which clearly has a major role to play at the November and February events.

“However, the classic British car elements of all three shows will continue to be placed firmly at the core and we will be communicating with traders, exhibitors and visitors to ensure that any changes made are in line with what those groups want to see.”
