June 7 2004. A 21-year-old man who plunged 200ft down a cliff face near St Agnes inCornwall escaped death thanks to a £45 Weiss jacket, his mother believes.

Jamie Hamilton sustained serious head and spinal injuries during the incident at Trevellas Porth on Saturday evening. It is believed he had ridden his motorbike up to the cliff to watch the sunset before the drama unfolded..

A spokesman for Derriford Hospital said yesterday that he was in a stable condition.

Jamie's mother Gill believes he owes his life to a £45 Weiss padded leather motorcycling jacket, which protected his back during the fall.
