COMPLAINT ABOUT EGG TV ADVERT NOT UPHELD
October 20th 2004.

Members of the Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMI) issued a formal complaint to the advertising watchdog Ofcom about a recent TV advertisement by Egg, the internet bank. It was argued that, by portraying a garage owner in a bad light, the advertisement negatively depicted the retail motor sector.

The complaint was not upheld.

Matthew Carrington, RMI Chief Executive, commented: "Despite [the] rejection of the complaint, motor retailers can try to prevent any future use of this negative stereotype in Egg's advertising campaign by registering their dissatisfaction with Ofcom or directly with Egg."
