November 29th 2004. Mikuni Corp. plans to increase production of motorcycle fuel injection systems to around 1 million units a year within a few years.

The company currently relies heavily on motorcycle carburetors, making about 8 million of the products annually. It aims to hike the proportion of fuel injection systems in total production amid the growing movement among motorcycle makers to ditch carburetors for the more environmentally friendly alternative.

By launching mass production of such systems at its main factory in Kikugawa, Shizuoka Prefecture, the company hopes to capture a 30% share of the global market for carburetors and fuel injection systems.

Mikuni released a fuel injection system for small motorcycles this month.
