REMPLOY GETS BIKER BACK ON TRACK

March 29th 2005.
Carl King, from Sudbury in Suffolk, thought his career prospects were finished when he lost his right leg in a road accident on his bike nearly four years ago. Carl (40) had just qualified as an electrician but all work was on hold as he recovered from his terrible injuries.

He was put in touch with Remploy Interwork, the largest provider of job opportunities for disabled people in the UK. The Interwork team helped Carl put together a CV and the search for work began.
Carl said: "The Remploy Interwork team were great and helped me in applying for jobs. I then saw an advert for an admin job at the One Stop Training Shop who are a motorcycle training school in Colchester and do courses from CBT to BMF Blue Riband advance courses and also main dealers for Malaguti, Moto Roma, Reiju and Motor Hispania. In the shop, learners can purchase clothing and accessories suitable for their bike and their wallet. I love motorcycles and this would be the perfect role for me.
"I undertook a 13 week trial with the shop to see if I could crack it in admin - looking after the bookings, ordering stock, etc., and working with the owners, John Andrews and Phil Wright."
John said: "Carl fitted in well. Now, thanks to Remploy Interwork, we have also got Access-to-Work money from the Government to adapt the company van so that Carl can go out and make deliveries. They have also offered us support in getting additional training for Carl."
Carl, who is now a full time employee and spare-parts manager at the shop, said: "I love this job. I have been back on my bike for three years now and the next stop for me is to get practice on my prosthetic leg. John and Phil are kindly planning to get me trained as a motorbike instructor."
