Ex-Grand Prix star and BBC MotoGP commentator, Steve Parrish, visited Bridgestone UK's Warwick headquarters last week to draw the winner of the second phase in the tyre giant's massive 2005 dealer and customer promotional campaign: 'Grip the Road - Escape to Freedom'
In the nationwide promotion, every customer who buys a set of Bridgestone tyres from a participating dealer is entered into a prize draw to win a new Ducati 999, which the winner will collect as a special VIP guest of Bridgestone at the Valencia MotoGP round in November.
Each entrant fills in a campaign application form indicating the dealer from whom the tyres were bought. The lucky dealer in phase two was Alan Duffus of Alan Duffus Motorcycles in Scotland, who also wins a trip for two to Valencia.
"I'm made up," Duffus commented. "I've hardly won anything in my life and, as we're a Yamaha dealer, it will be awesome to see Rossi in action. The Bridgestone rep told us to get the forms filled in and we'd stand a chance of winning - I wasn't convinced but we gave it a go. I'll listen to him more now!"
Alan Duffus will be joining fellow Bridgestone dealer, Kevin Matherson, and his son from Mitchell's Motorcycles of Inverness, who won in the first phase of the competition run earlier in the year. The race is now on for the third and final stage of the competition, running from August to October. The winner of that phase will enjoy a trip to the first MotoGP round of 2006 - Jerez in Spain on March 26th.
Arthur Macdonald, Bridgestone UK's motorcycle tyres manager said: "We now know who the two trade winners are for Valencia. At the Malaysian GP, Loris Capirossi will pull a name from the hat containing all the customer application forms. The winner will be presented with his or her Ducati 999 on the Valencia trip as well. It's the culmination of a huge campaign."
