ROBINSONS FOUNDRY BUYS SPARES DIRECT
January 22 2009.

Stewart Robinson, managing director of Robinsons Foundry, the Canterbury-based Suzuki and Harley Davidson dealer, has announced the acquisition of the London-based Suzuki parts specialist, Spares Direct.

Recently awarded the prestigious Suzuki GB 2008 Aftersales Dealer of the Year Award, Robinsons Suzuki is now set for a considerable boost in parts sales, with the integration of over half a million pounds worth of additional Suzuki stock from Spares Direct. A new warehouse has been acquired, which under the guidance of Michelle Robinson will be used to accommodate and expand the Robinsons Suzuki parts business.

Derek Loan, the long time owner/operator of Spares Direct, contacted leading industry consultant Steve Kenward to facilitate the disposal in the summer of 2008. The long-standing lease on the Spares Direct Harrow Road property was up for renewal, having been trading there for nearly thirty years, firstly as London Suzuki Centre and more recently as Spares Direct, Derek felt like a change, as you do at 61 years young!

Steve Kenward and Derek Loan were well known to each other from Derek's time as Vice Chairman of the Suzuki Dealer Council and, of course, Steve's time as Managing Director at Suzuki GB.

Of the prospective buyers expressing an interest, Robinsons Foundry had the profile that best suited a seamless integration of Spares Direct. After preliminary meetings and due diligence inspections, an offer was made, modified and accepted.

Speaking from the Robinsons stand at January's Motorcycle Trade Expo, Derek Loan said, "Our presence here at the show has been tremendously successful and we're pleased to be here for the first time. It has provided us with a good opportunity to announce the integration and acquisition of Spares Direct by Robinsons."

Busy times for the Robinson clan. Michelle has just become a mum, Stewart wants to spend more time pounding the by-ways of Kent and Michael is busy on all fronts of the ever developing business.
