The readers of RiDE magazine have voted Avon Tyres as their favourite choice of motorcycle rubber.

RiDER Power, the largest annual motorcycle consumer survey of its kind, had more than 7,056 RiDE readers participate to help discover what the best bikes are, who the finest motorcycle dealers are and what the top products are.

The tyre category was assessed on a range of criteria, including wet and dry grip and front and rear longevity. An incredible four products from the Avon range featured heavily in the overall top 10 positions.

Demonstrating Avon's strength in the sports touring category, Azaro-ST took the top spot followed by its successor, Storm-ST, in seventh. The popular Viper Sports road tyre was placed eighth with the Roadrider finishing off the top 10.

Avon also took the honour of having three products in the sub-category of Best Wet Grip, with Storm-ST in first, followed by Roadrider and Distanzia in sixth and tenth respectively.

Gary Bretherton, UK Sales Manager for Avon Motorcycle Tyres, a division of Cooper Tire & Rubber Company Europe, said, "This is obviously a great result and at Avon we pride ourselves for building tyres for real road riders. The RiDER Power result only proves this."

RiDE's editor, Colin Overland, commented: "RiDE readers tend to be mature, experienced riders who are immune to hype and spin but are prepared to listen to other bikers.

"Tyres is a particularly interesting category. It's broken down in a very detailed way, and our readers clearly give their answers a lot of thought. So when they say that a particular tyre is best in the dry or best in the wet, they mean it."

Avon's Roadrider also enjoyed more acclaim this month by winning Bike magazine's Crossply tyre test for mid-capacity commuters. In the December issue, seven pairs of tyres were subject to 100 miles of hard use before being assessed on stability, handling characteristics and durability.
