YAMAHA POSTS 216 BILLION YEN LOSS

Yamaha has posted a 216.2 billion yen (1.54 billion pounds) loss for the year ending December 2009, up on the previous forcast of 182 billion Yen loss.

Sales were up by 53.6 billion yen on forcast for the period, but still some 28% down on the  previous year.

In 2008, the firm logged a 1.8 billion yen profit.

Meanwhile, Suzuki's motorcycle operations saw an operating loss of about 8.6 billion yen in the October-December quarter. That comes on top of the previous quarter's 2.6 billion yen loss.
