Team Digest riders Paul Knight & Dave Newman successfully completed the Heroes' Legend race to Dakar on their Q8Oils supported Yamaha XT500, the same type used in the early Dakar rallies. Having covered more than 6,500 kilometres, their motorcycle & 4-wheel drive team raced from Paris to Dakar through France, Spain, Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal, completing the gruelling competition in overall 21st place and 13th in their class - an impressive result for two riders with no previous experience of rallies or desert riding on a bike that is nearly 30 years old.

All team vehicles were lubricated by Q8Oils and proved mechanically sound, although the competition was far from incident free. In a real-life "Boy's Own Adventure" Dave Newman mistakenly entered the wrong GPS coordinates on the stage from Atar to Tiloulit and got totally lost. After he fell and knocked himself out in the middle of the Mauritanian desert he was found by a group of nomads who took care of him, fed him and let him sleep like a baby. When he woke up, he hadn't a clue where he was! This problem was compounded by the fact that the electrical supply to his GPS had been damaged in the fall, thus eliminating any hope of being found by the race organisers using their e-track system. His only hope was to kick the kick-start every 30 seconds in order to generate sufficient power to send an e-track signal. Sure enough, the organisers had launched a search and they managed to locate him by satellite. In fact, he was only 45 kilometres from the camp! The rescue wagon went out to fetch him and he got off relatively lightly with a broken wrist, but amazing memories of an exceptional encounter with the nomads in the heart of the majestic Mauritanian desert.

The team chose Q8Oils Moto SBK part synthetic oil for the race as it offered the optimum balance of lubrication and cooling for the big air-cooled single in the gruelling desert conditions and it proved an ideal choice. Q8 Moto SBK is available in 1L and 4L pack sizes.
