SHOEI MAKE A BRIGHT START IN 2011
January 21 2011.

Shoei has added 20 new models to its popular helmet road range for 2011 with thirteen new designs, replicas and colours.

The X-Spirit II, XR1100 and Qwest, all of which have been introduced to the Shoei range over the past 18 months, have proved hugely popular with riders and have all attained a SHARP five-star rating in its safety tests.

The X-Spirit II, as used by Shoei's MotoGP, WSB and British Superbike racers, features the historic Japanese company's most advanced helmet construction to date. The outer shell is composed from six layers of super-strong organic fibreglass and carbon while the inner EPS receives a dual-density shock-absorbing lining. Wind tunnel development on the range-topping helmet created vents that provide maximum ventilation without creating buffeting for the rider in any direction the head is turned.

For 2011, Shoei is celebrating Toni Elias becoming the first ever Moto2 champion by offering riders the design (Elias 2 TC-3) he used to make history in. To honour another of its champions, the existing Ryuchi Kiyonari replica is complemented with a stunning monochrome version (Kiyonari2 TC-6, £580) of the paint scheme used by the reigning British Superbike champion.

Yukio Kagayama's distinctive design has also been revised. The popular WSB, BSB and Suzuka 8-hour race winner's helmet is still available in his trademark blue along with a silver version (Kagayama 3 TC-2, 5 £580). For riders looking for something a little more understated, a new matt black (£480) reveals the true form of the X-Spirit II.

The XR1100, more suited to sports and touring riders, receives eight new striking graphics; Baroque, Conqueror, Diabolic Divinity, El Capitan and Enigma, all priced at £380. The Tommy Hill replica is now also available in black, white and gold (Hill TC-5)

At its launch, the XR1100 introduced a brand new visor mechanism on a Shoei which is entirely draft-free thanks to the "suction seal" self-adjusting concept. The improved visor system - now incorporated across the Shoei range - also provides a broader field of vision over previous models and features a modified and enlarged Pinlock insert for maximum clarity in all conditions.

With rider comfort firmly in mind, the XR1100's entirely redesigned ventilation system maintains an ideal helmet climate that incorporates a negative pressure system with a special extraction technology to guarantee the effective and continuous discharge of warm air, even at very low speeds.

The entry-level Qwest is the most recent addition to the Shoei range of premium helmets and is bolstered by three new designs; Airfoil, Bloodflow and Sprite.

The Qwest is 60.3% quieter than the Shoei Raid-II it replaced and features the same sophisticated visor system as the XR1100 and X-Spirit II. The complex shape of the helmet ensures ideal aerodynamics because the noise level is reduced to a surprising minimum and by using four shell sizes for seven helmet sizes, Shoei make an optimal fit for every head size possible.

The Qwest has a weight of just 1400g (+/- 50) at size "M" and the spoiler integrated into the shell eases strain on the neck and ensures long lasting fitness. The ventilation system of the Qwest is a completely new development - larger top and lower air intakes have been repositioned and the two rear ventilation holes are also new: warm used air is not just exhausted but sucked out by low pressure.
