Acumen, the UK's leading motorcycle electronics manufacturer, has developed a plug-in alarm system that will upgrade 2006 model Yamaha R6 motorcycles to the highest category for insurance approval.
Like many of the latest high performance motorcycles, the R6 has a factory fitted immobiliser that is approved to the Thatcham Category 2 (CAT2).  However, many insurers insist on a full Category 1 (CAT1) system for these machines and will also offer lower premiums to owners who fit them.
The Acumen CAT21 will elevate the standard OE CAT2 system to a CAT1 standard. It can be fitted quickly and easily because it is specifically designed to plug into the Yamaha's wiring loom. The CAT21 has many user-friendly features, including 14 user definable siren tones, a hazard light function and an optional turn signal reminder (to prevent excessive winking). There is also an intelligent passive arming system, so the owner can choose whether the alarm should arm automatically or only when they press the key fob, helping to make petrol stops, ferry crossings, etc. less fraught.
The Acumen Cat 21 is fully encapsulated, to prevent water ingress, even in extreme conditions, and is covered by a 3-year manufacturer's warranty.
The Acumen Cat 21 upgrade is available to plug into a variety of current sports bikes, including the R6, priced at ¬£169.99 inc. VAT (¬£279.99 including fitting).  The Cat 21 is supplied with Acumen's unique flip-fob, which will accept the bike's ignition key and has an integral LED torch.
