PROBIKE ISSUE DATA THEFT STATEMENT
August 30 2011.

ProBike has issued the following statement:

Data Protection Act 1998 - Voluntary Disclosure - Data Theft

Further to a Notification of a Serious Data Security Breach to the Information Commissioner's Office and in order to minimise the potential damage to our customers and suppliers in the industry it is with great regret that we are obliged to disclose the theft of commercial data by a former employee.

The former employee has admitted to theft of a copy of our database backup containing approximately 6000 records covering commercial transactions over a 15-year period. Potentially other data has also been accessed and copied.

We have always acted in accordance with the Data Protection Act and we take our responsibilities very seriously. We believe our data security is more than satisfactory but it is virtually impossible to protect against theft of data by those who are entrusted to use it. However, in the light of this experience we are taking steps to improve data security further.

If you have suffered loss as a result of identity theft or credit card fraud recently, or if you are concerned about the data which we held about you or your company at the time of the theft, please contact us immediately or contact the Information Commissioner's Office, Enforcement Division quoting ref COM0401313.
