Andrew Smith, managing director of Yamaha Motor (UK) Limited, was recently presented with a Sterling Silver model of a YZF-R1 from the UK Yamaha motorcycle dealer network - a token of their appreciation for Andrew's support and friendship during nearly 30 years at Yamaha and a celebration of his promotion to Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Yamaha Motor Europe.

The model, which was commissioned by Alan Duffus of Alan Duffus Motorcycles in Kirkcaldy and created by Brian Paterson of B R Paterson Goldsmiths of Thornton, Fife, is mounted on a slate base and constructed from individually hand-made solid silver components, taking a total of six months to complete.

Presenting the award last Thursday during a surprise lunch at Mercedes-Benz World near Yamaha Motor UK's HQ in Surrey, Alan said, "It was fantastic to be in a position to organise this special gift for Andrew and I would like to thank all of the UK dealers who contributed so generously. Of course, the best bit was seeing Andrew Smith speechless - for once!"

A thoroughly overwhelmed Andrew Smith said, "In 29 years of working for Yamaha UK, I have always found something to say even in the most challenging circumstances. However, on this occasion, I was literally lost for words. I am absolutely astounded by the sincere generosity shown by all the Yamaha dealers and this special and unique present will definitely take pride of place at home. It will be a constant reminder of the fantastic times I have had working with all the dealers many of whom have also become great friends. I could not have dreamt of or wished for anything more perfect and I cannot thank everyone enough, particularly Alan who has co-ordinated this secret project."

Also included in the presentation party was Isle of Man TT winner Ian Bell of Ian Bell Motorcycles, Bedlington and Steven Damerell of Damerell's Motorcycles, Cornwall
