To coincide with the launch of its Commander II tyre for cruisers over 650cc, Michelin has also launched a Facebook application dedicated to the tyre and its users.

Available globally, the Michelin Commander II application enables users to share views, technical information and interests. One of the application's most entertaining features allows users to star in a customisable animated film using their picture and other details from their Facebook profile http://michelin-commander-2.com

Dedicated to the world of cruiser enthusiasts, the platform is a social networking tool that brings the riding community together, in the same way that associations, clubs and recreational events do. As part of this participative approach, cruiser manufacturers all have their own Facebook pages, some of which have as many as 3.5 million friends.

The cruiser replacement tyre market reflects the specific needs of its users. In 2011, more than 1.59 million cruiser tyres were sold in North America, of which 86% use traditional (or cross-ply) technology*. In the same year, 227,000 units were sold in Europe, of which 82% were cross-ply tyres**. In the rest of the world (mainly South America, Australia and Japan) approximately 266,000 cruiser tyres were sold during the year. In all regions, cruiser riders stand apart by their shared expectations with regard to tyres. They're looking for products with distinctive design that also deliver excellent total mileage and superior safety. Speed and lively steering response are not among their priorities. The tyre manufacturer's role is to combine these different features.

That's exactly what the Michelin Commander II tyre does, offering longevity, stability, handling and wet grip. This performance combination is the result of two technologies: Silica Rain Technology (SRT) in the rubber compound and a unique tread pattern designed to wear evenly and disperse water effectively - to provide outstanding grip on wet roads.

Available in 15 sizes (six for the front tyre and nine for the rear), the new Michelin Commander II can be fitted on nearly all cruisers currently available on the market. Reflecting the validity of its performance balance, the tyre was named New Product of the Year at the V-Twin Expo in Cincinnati, Ohio in February.
