NEW TASKFORCES TO TACKLE TAX EVASION
April 13 2012.

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is to launch 30 new taskforces in 2012/13 with the goal of reducing tax evasion. Each of the new taskforces will target specific business sectors in specific locations where HMRC considers there to be evidence of tax evasion. Targets include the motor and rag trades as well as indoor and outdoor markets.

The creation of the taskforces follows the government's £917 million spending review investment to tackle tax evasion, avoidance and fraud from 2011/12. The intention is to raise an additional £7 billion each year by 2014/15.

Suspicious activity can be reported to HMRC via the Tax Evasion Hotline on 0800 788 887.

Full details on all 2012/13 taskforces will be announced later in the year on HMRC's website - www.hmrc.gov.uk
