ONS ANNUAL BUSINESS SURVEY FOR UK MOTORCYCLE INDUSTRY

The Office for National Statistics released its Annual Business Survey figures this week, detailing the size and value of the UK motorcycle industry.

In the Sale maintenance and repair of motorcycles and related parts and accessories category. the total number of enterprises fell from 2527 in 2008 to 2378 in 2009 and 2310 in 2010. Whilst the total turnover per year stayed pretty even at over £2200 million across the same three years, the total employment figure dropped from 11,000 in 2008 down to 8,000 in 2009 and no figure was given for 2010, with a footnote 'Information suppressed to avoid disclosure'.

Total employment cost for the three years were 2008 - £208 million, 2009 - £193 million, and  2010 - £211 million.

In 2010 the total stocks and work in progress value at the end of the year was £435 million, an increase of  £33 million over the year.
