Öhlins Racing UK recently took a group of technicians from its elite Service Centres to a training course with a difference at the Suspension World (Andreani) centre in Italy.
Incorporating a state-of-the-art interactive motorcycle with video uplink and world renowned experts from beyond the immediate field of suspension, the aim of this unique course was to gain a complete overview of motorcycle dynamics.

The twenty attendees were treated to presentations and workshops, not only from Öhlins technicians, but also from a World Superbike Pirelli tyre engineer and a vehicle dynamicist from Coventry University. This wide range of expertise gave delegates valuable insight on how suspension, tyre and chassis set-up interact to create optimum machine handling.

Using the Suspension World auditorium at Pesaro, various set-up parameters and conditions were altered on a motorcycle held in a two poster suspension rig upon the stage. Behind the machine a big screen illustrated input and results including a tracktime video. All attendees received a special certificate which will no doubt be an interesting talking point back at their Öhlins Service Centres.

Attendees expressed appreciation for this holistic approach to motorcycle set-up, with veteran British Superbike technician Andy White of KAIS stating: "I have over 25 years of experience working in the field with race teams using Ohlins at the highest level of racing, but there is always something new to learn and that is why with courses such as this one, Ohlins remains at the forefront of suspension technology."

Chris Witter, Business Development Manager said: Öhlins Racing UK added, "This was a really unique and fantastic opportunity to take the UK Öhlins centre staff out to the impressive Suspension World facility. It was a very different course as these experts from other fields all gave their input and we looked at the motorcycle as a whole, not just the suspension elements."
