December 12 2003 Small businesses are the most regular offenders of software copyright breach, according to the Business Software Alliance. The BSA also reckon that 26 per cent of business software during 2002 in use is illegal.

The BSA says that many SMEs have no formal software policy or IT function to monitor and manage the use of software. The BSA recognise that in most cases, the illegal use of software is unwitting and offers a range of free online services to help businesses keep control of their software assets as well as a software audit form.
