The Driving Standards Agency has announced that the proposed change to A2 motorcycle test, in which learners would be allowed to take the test on a smaller bike, has been delayed. The amendment was due to come into force in January 2014.

The Agency has not specified an exact date for its introduction, but has suggested it will be during the next few months.

When implemented, the change will allow learners taking an A2 licence (for medium sized motorcycles) to do their test on a less powerful motorcycle than is currently allowed. The minimum size for this licence category is currently 25kW (33bph), but this will be reduced to 20kW (27bhp).

An A2 licence is for bikes up to 35kW (47bhp) and can be taken by anyone aged 19 or over.
