MARATHON EFFORT BY BEN RUNNERS RAISES OVER £12,000
April 25 2014.

The 2014 London Marathon once again proved how important running events and challenges are to the fundraising efforts of any charity as five determined runners from the automotive industry took on the 26.2 mile course to raise money for their industry charity. The current total raised through sponsorship is over £12,000 and rising every day; an amazing achievement which will almost certainly mean BEN receives £100 for every one of the 130 miles collectively run on the day.

BEN is grateful to literally hundreds of men and women who enter marathons, half marathons and other challenges or events every year; the money they raise really does make a significant difference. It is inspiring to see people in excellent health thinking of others who are facing physical, emotional and even financial difficulties. BEN endeavours to provide the care and support required in these times of hardship and stress.

Commenting on his own experience, Marathoner Mike Fenlon who works for WKB Toyota & Nissan said: “Just to say a big thank you to all at BEN for giving me the chance to run in the London marathon this year. Although it was by far the hardest challenge I have ever given myself I cannot believe how special the event was. I did finish in a time of 4h and 50m which I am pleased with although it was outside my target time. Many people told me you will enjoy the day as the spectators are very supportive towards every runner but I think that was an understatement; the crowd throughout the 26.2 miles were truly fantastic. Once again, thank you for allowing me to run for such an important cause and I look forward to new challenges in the future.”

Mike’s time was 4hrs 50m. His co-runners on the day were Neil Kennett of Featurebank, (4hrs 11), Andy Hamilton of Euro Car Parts (4hrs 33), James Dickens of Halfords Autocentres (5hrs 34) and Julie Howard from Automotive Management (4hrs 13).
