At a Parliamentary Reception of the All Party Motorcycle Group on the 8th December 2014, the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) and Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) jointly launched ‘Realising the Motorcycling Opportunity: A Motorcycle Safety and Transport Policy Framework’.

Both police and industry agree that traditional road safety policies directed at motorcycling will only partially deliver more positive outcomes for motorcycle safety beyond those already achieved. However, encouraging rather than discouraging motorcycling, should contribute to better safety outcomes.

The document calls for motorcycles to be included in mainstream transport policy and sets out a framework of practical recommendations addressing how this might be achieved. A number of actions are suggested which fit into six main themes;

•Theme One: Road User Awareness
•Theme Two: Educate to Deliver
•Theme Three: Motorcycles as a Practical Solution
•Theme Four: Unlocking the Benefits of Motorcycling
•Theme Five: Better Motorcycle Industry Engagement in Society
•Theme Six: Partnership with Cycling

The MCIA is seeking feedback from within the industry. CLICK HERE to view the full framework document and link to the electronic survey.
