DUNLOP MXGP RIDER BOGERS WINS AT SANDY LOMMEL

July 25th, 2022.

Dunlop rider Brian Bogers scored his first ever victory in the FIM Motocross World Championship on Sunday, with his Dunlop Geomax tyres giving him the traction to master the sand at Lommel, one of MXGP’s most demanding tracks.

Riding the Standing Construct Husqvarna Factory Racing bike, Bogers enjoyed a memorable race day in Belgium that gave him his first MXGP race win in the first heat and was improved by a last-lap pass to secure the overall Grand Prix victory at the end of the second race.

Bogers’ factory Husqvarna team is one of several teams that choose Dunlop tyres for MXGP, the top tier of motocross racing. Lommel’s deep sand surface requires a tyre designed to scoop through the sand, unlike many other mud or hard-pack tracks on the calendar. Dunlop tests the next generation of tyres with top riders in championships like MXGP, and this weekend the riders raced on a development tyre based on the brand-new Dunlop Geomax MX14.

Geomax MX14 is designed specifically for sand tracks and features more pronounced scoops and taller tread blocks than its predecessor. It was developed in part during the 2021 MXGP season, and Dunlop rider Romain Febvre used it to win at the very same Lommel track 12 months ago, while MX14 was still in its development phase.

On this year’s visit to the Belgian circuit, Bogers and Febvre battled it out for podium positions with an updated version of the tyre. At the end of the second race, Bogers’ overtake on Febvre gave the Husqvarna rider enough cumulative points to win, while Febvre brought his Kawasaki home in fourth overall with third and fourth place finishes across the two heats.

Eddy Seel, Event Leader MXGP, Dunlop: “Congratulations to Brian Bogers for a memorable first MXGP victory. He and the Standing Construct Husqvarna team have worked extremely hard for this and they deserve every success. We’re proud to work with them and the other Dunlop partner teams, because days like these demonstrate the performance, stability and traction offered by our Geomax range; particularly the new MX14 sand tyre.”

The next round of the FIM Motocross World Championship is on 7 August at Uddevalla, Sweden.
