GREEN NUMBER PLATES

June 17th, 2020.

The Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) has outlined how, earlier this year, the government consulted on the introduction of green number plates to identify zero emission vehicles.

It has now been announced that these plates will be introduced from the Autumn, with the actual implementation date subject to available parliamentary time to amend legislation.

The plates are not mandatory, so riders can choose whether or not to have one and they can be fitted to new or existing PTWs. They can, however, only be fitted to zero-emission vehicles.

An example of a car plate is shown above (the only representation currently on the government website). The green area is sited where a country marker is currently found, although country identities such as a GB plate, can still be used on the green background.
