VE (UK)’s Robert Kerr was Derbyshire’s first recorded Coronavirus patient when he was taken ill back at the beginning of March.

Following diagnosis, he was quickly hospitalised, taken into ICU. With double pneumonia, extremely low oxygen in his blood, sepsis, and many other issues, he was put into an induced coma for 13 days, ending with a tracheotomy to help him recover. After three weeks, he had fought back enough to return home, and with the full support of family and friends, embarked on the long journey to recovery.

The good news is that young Kerr is back in the saddle at VE HQ. He is still recuperating and obeying doctor’s orders, so is desk bound, but the outlook is positive for Team Kerr.

Clearly relieved to have his son back on track, dad Norrie said; “We, his family, thank god for his recovery, we were at the point of losing him, and thankfully, the brilliant NHS team in the Royal Derby Hospital, got him safe enough to go home to speed his recovery. It will be a while before he is fully fit, but, the good news he’s back. His wife Amy, daughters Trinity and Samantha, son Gage, mum Janet and, of course, the whole family thank everyone for their support.”
