Dunlop RoadSmart IV has been named the winner of the latest road tyre test by leading German magazine MOTORRAD, earning particular praise for its excellent handling and balanced performance in all conditions.

Dunlop’s premium sport touring tyre impressed MOTORRAD’s testers in the comparison, where three road-focused tyres in sizes 120/70 R19 front and 170/60 R17 rear were tested on a BMW R 1300 GS. RoadSmart IV secured first place overall in the road tyre category, delivering class-leading wet performance and joint-best results in the dry sub-category.

The result marks the second time in five years that the tyre has taken top honours in a MOTORRAD test. It also continues a strong run of success for Dunlop in independent testing this year, following SportSmart mk4’s comparable overall victory in MOTORRAD’s earlier sport tyre test.

MOTORRAD’s testers particularly praised RoadSmart IV’s precise dry handling and feedback. Testers noted it, “Turns in more easily than its competitors,” and is, “Highly recommended”, for motorcycles that typically have sluggish steering behaviour. Editors commented it “did not feel unstable” on the BMW R 1300 GS test bike, but rather it "excelled with high cornering speed, solid grip at maximum lean angle, and extremely precise feedback.”

RoadSmart IV also impressed in wet conditions, with testers commending its “extremely easy manoeuvring ability in fast cornering sequences,” with its precise rider feedback “clearly signalling the limits in a user-friendly manner.”

MOTORRAD summarised the ttre as an ,“incredible all-rounder”, with. “excellent handling and top performance in all conditions,” concluding: “On the GS, riders can use it to annoy Superbike riders.”

This strong performance across both dry and wet conditions also earned RoadSmart IV the magazine’s ‘Kauftipp’ (‘purchase recommendation’) awards.
