MCIA REPRESENTS AND OVERSEES THE INTERESTS OF THE MOTORCYCLE, SCOOTER AND POWERED LIGHT VEHICLE (PLV) INDUSTRY
Among the MCIA’s 163 members are manufacturers and importers of complete vehicles, accessory and component suppliers, finance, insurance, and other service providers, along with marketing and PR agencies connected to the industry.
Being a member of the MCIA means your views are heard. Members get the opportunity to influence the direction of the Association, as well as investing in the future.
Membership of MCIA offers a variety of benefits which are detailed below.
• Market Intelligence: Each month MCIA publish detailed registration data (including a separate electric report) exclusively for Members, highlighting the areas of growth/decline in each sector and then a yearly booklet giving a more in-depth view. Additional bespoke reporting is available from their sophisticated data bank and reporting package.
• Trade (EU and International): MCIA are working to ensure members are kept fully up to speed on not just current changes, but future regulation that will come into play, representing the whole industry during its engagement on every issue.
• PLV Action Plan: In its Transport Decarbonisation Plan: A Better, Greener, Britain the UK Government tasked MCIA and Zemo Partnership to coordinate work on innovation in urban logistics and personal mobility, and to set out the steps needed to build new national and local UK opportunities for the PLV Industry to help Government realise its enormous potential. This included the publishing of a toolkit to help support local authorities in planning and delivering measures to reduce carbon emissions from transport, recognising the important role local areas will play. You can view the launch HERE.
• The Journey: ‘The Journey to a Brighter Destination’ is a document which makes the case for motorcycling and the benefits it offers to the UK economy, the positive effect on a rider’s mental health and physical wellbeing, and the limited negative impact on the environment. This document will play a key role as MCIA respond to the Government’s consultation on the phase out of non-zero emission motorcycles and scooters (L-Category), expected in the coming months.
• Technical Support: MCIA give advice and support in respect of relevant changes in legislation, regulation, and other external factors, topics include Whole Vehicle Type Approval (WVTA), UKCA, and CoP.
• Safety & Training: MCIA work closely with government & transport departments in relation to safety and training. Ensuring all stakeholders are working towards high levels of training standards across the industry and a joined-up approach to road safety.
• The future of Transport: MCIA work closely with all departments of government, making sure that the L-category industry is being fully considered when it comes to any changes or future transport strategy. We are lobbying government on several different topics to ensure relevant questions are posed to officials at all levels to receive favourable legislation.
• Motorcycle Live: the industry’s flagship show, putting organisations in front of over 100,000 keen motorcyclists. Members receive priority booking and inclusive/discounted stand space based on the Membership option. Dates for 2022 are 19th – 27th November 2022.
• Representation: Government departments recognise MCIA as the voice of the sector. When working with MCIA, government and its agencies can be confident they are receiving a fully considered view of the sector and its needs. MCIA leads and contributes to many projects and meetings within government and key UK stakeholder groups including the Department for Transport (DfT), Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and Transport for London (TfL), as well as through its affiliation with the Europe-wide industry body, ACEM.
